“Simplicity is an exact medium between too little and too much “, Joshua Reynold, Discourses on Art.

At KNOPOWER we offer Power Engineering courses with a lot of practical information without using complicated math and yet covering all the important concepts that will give you insights not generally available in text books. We assure you that our over four decades of experience in Power Systems Domain coupled with our practical approach to teaching will significantly increase your job potential if you are a student and transform you into a more confident Power Engineer if you are already working in the power sector at any level from plant floor to top floor in the field of Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution, Instrumentation & Controls, SCADA and DCS, Training and Development.

We offer following courses at present but the list is by no means complete. We are working on the entire spectrum of Power Engineering courses covering Power Plants, Transmission and Distribution, Steady state and Transient Stability Analysis of Grids, and Automation and Controls of Power Plants using Distributed Control Systems (DCS). Stay tuned for future announcements

Who Should Attend These Courses?

a) Engineering Graduates and Diploma Holders:

Students graduating from engineering colleges with degrees or diplomas in electrical engineering often lack exposure to the practical aspects essential for project execution. As a result, many are considered unemployable by industry standards. These training courses bridge that gap, making participants industry-ready and enabling them to face job interviews with confidence.

b) Graduate Engineer Trainees (GETs) in Public and Private Sector Organizations:

Major public and private sector organizations, as well as utilities, recruit large numbers of GETs annually. These courses, designed with a strong focus on practical applications, can be offered through their training departments. Given the difficulty of finding skilled instructors who are proficient in both theory and hands-on practice, these ready-to-deploy courses serve as an effective solution.

c) Working Professionals:

Many engineers currently employed in various organizations lack a sound conceptual foundation, often performing tasks mechanically due to work pressures and inadequate induction training. Online technical courses offer a flexible and convenient way for such professionals—particularly those in continuous process industries who may not be able to take leave—to enhance their knowledge. These courses help them understand not just how but also why things work, facilitating meaningful upskilling and professional growth.

d) Lifelong Learners:

Anyone with a genuine interest in learning the fundamentals of Electrical Power Engineering will find these courses intellectually enriching and engaging. These courses can be useful tool in ‘Teach the Teachers’ program.

List of courses

Currently we offer the following courses. The list is by no means complete. We are working on more such courses in Power Engineering

Introduction to Electrical Power

This course provides a broad overview of Electric Power Engineering, beginning with the historical evolution of AC and DC systems. It introduces the fundamental electrical parameters and explores both analog and digital measurement techniques. Key components of the power system—Generation, Transmission, and Distribution—are briefly explained, offering a foundational understanding of the GTD framework. The module concludes with a discussion on the basic laws that govern the operation of electrical power equipment.

Electrical Drawings

This module provides a practical, industry-oriented introduction to the preparation and interpretation of electrical drawings, a skill rarely covered in academic programs. Designed for fresh graduates and engineers entering design roles, it covers the full spectrum of drawings used in real-world projects, from Single Line Diagrams for power distribution and protection schemes to General Arrangement, cable, earthing, lighting, and scheme drawings, Interconnection & Cable schedule. Participants will learn the rules, symbols, conventions, and standards that underpin professional documentation, as well as the ability to read, prepare, and verify drawings with confidence. By the end, learners will be equipped to handle electrical drawings to industry standards, bridging the important skill gap between classroom learning and workplace demands.

Electrical System Earthing

This comprehensive Earthing Module covers the principles, design, and safety aspects of electrical earthing systems in low, medium, and high-voltage applications. It explains the fundamentals of human safety, soil resistivity, electrode and grounding grid resistance, and system earthing practices in accordance with international standards. The course also explores advanced topics such as switchyard grounding grid design, GPR, Step and Touch potentials, clean earth systems, and earthing for specialized applications including solar farms, fuel tanks, and lightning protection. Through practical examples, measurement techniques, and software-based design illustrations, learners gain the knowledge and skills to design, assess, and maintain safe and effective earthing systems for diverse electrical installations.

Electrical System Grounding

Grounding of the neutral marked a turning point in the evolution of the modern power grid, transforming earlier ungrounded systems into safer networks. This comprehensive module explores both ungrounded and grounded system design and operation, covering their principles, behaviour during faults, detection methods, and practical implementation challenges. It examines solid, resistance, reactance, and resonant grounding methods, along with special grounding transformers such as Zig-Zag and Star-Delta. Real-world case studies, numerical examples, and “fairy tale” Q&A sessions bring complex concepts to life. Generator neutral grounding practices are discussed in depth, highlighting their impact on protection, zero-sequence current circulation, and core damage severity. The module blends theory with practical design insights, enabling one to make informed grounding decisions in diverse power system contexts.

Power System Fault Analysis

This module offers a comprehensive introduction to fault analysis in power systems, covering both balanced and unbalanced faults. It begins with the fundamentals of the per unit system, development of impedance diagrams, and network reduction techniques to calculate three-phase fault levels. Star equivalent circuit for three-winding transformers is explained. Next, unbalanced fault analysis through symmetrical components is introduced. The relationship between phase and sequence quantities is given, along with the development and interconnection of sequence networks for line-to-ground faults. Special attention is given to the representation of star-star and delta-star transformers in the zero- sequence network. Key concepts are reinforced with numerical examples throughout the module.

Relay Setting & Coordination

The three pillars of power engineering are Power System Analysis, Individual Equipment Design and Protection. One of the foundational topics in Protection engineering is Relay setting and coordination. This course demystifies protection schemes and walks you through practical methods for setting relays to achieve maximum selectivity with minimum fault clearance time."

Introduction to Power Plants (Upcoming)

Understand all the systems and sub systems of a fossil power plant, their operation and controls, binary and analog control, boiler and turbine control loops, governing system, coordinated master control,  basic thermodynamics, various thermodynamic cycles used in power plants, introduction to renewable power, nuclear power generation principles etc.
